Grey’s Anatomy defines the tectorial ligament/membrane as the “superior-ward prolongation of the posterior longitudinal ligament (PLL)”,however, it also defines the TL/TM as terminating at cervical vertebrae two. Reviews of the literature identified that the precise anatomy of the TL/TM-PLL junction is inconsistently reported across different aspects e.g. morphology, classification and insertions or origins. The purpose of this research was to define the TM/TL and its relationship with surrounding structures at a mesoscopic level using a combination of epoxy sheet plastination and multiphoton confocal microscopy.
